Shaunté Gates Easton Pribble Visiting Artist Lecture

Join us for a special artist talk at 3:30 p.m. with Washington, D.C. artist Shaunté Gates. A mixed media collage and video artist, Gates addresses his real-world experiences through dreamlike and mythic landscapes based on his childhood in Washington, D.C. The layers of paint and paper reflect the layers of his memories. The images recall a particular geography, the people who lived there, and experiences over time in Gates’ public housing neighborhood in the nation’s capital.

The mission of the Easton Pribble Visiting Artist Lecture Series is to invite guests who represent a variety of creative disciplines and bring diversity of perspectives to inspire, motivate, and challenge the students of PrattMWP College of Art and Design. By inviting leaders in their field to speak about their current work and creative thought process, the visiting artists participate in a dialogue with PrattMWP students and the broader Utica community. All talks are free and open to the public.

Gate's work "There's No Place Like Home" inspired the title of and is included in the current exhibition No Place Like Home, on view in the Museum of Art.
