Before photographs entered the museum, they circulated on the page via newspapers, magazines, and advertisements. In this talk, photo historian Nadya Bair will examine the professional lives of early 20th-century photographers including Margaret Bourke-White and Dorothea Lange, considering how their pictures were shaped by the photo editors and art directors with whom they worked so closely.
