MATT SAUNDERS: " With ceramics, we have a chance to connect to an older part of our culture, often reconnect and also explore other cultures. In my practice, I use my time creating for self reflection and discovery. The end results are a mirror and memory of my personal journey. Whether it is sculpture or functional ware, the interaction of family, friends, and strangers, is key to the completion of the work. The rituals we have while creating and using our drinking vessels, dinner ware, and storage containers; the sense of community it cultivates, is very much as important as the objects themselves".
